Acne is not resolved with a single facial. At Maayan Cosmetics the plan starts with a skin diagnosis, and is built according to the type of acne and the condition of the skin — not a single template.

Skin diagnosis for an acne plan at Maayan Cosmetics clinic in Tiberias

Acne is not resolved with a single facial. It is a process, and it takes time.

At Maayan Cosmetics, the acne plan starts with a skin diagnosis, and is built according to the type of acne and the condition of the skin — not according to a single template.

Active acne first. What remains, later

This is the central distinction in our plan, and it sounds technical until it is explained.

When there is dampness in a house, you treat the source of the leak first, and only then the damage left on the wall. There is no point painting a wall that is still getting wet. By the same logic:

  • Plan A — active acne. Treats the active stage: the breakouts, the inflammation, what is happening now.
  • Plan B — Post-Acne. Treats the marks that remain — spots, uneven texture, scars.

Plan B is purchased separately, and it is not a required stage. Some people finish the acne plan and do not need it. The decision is made after the active acne is balanced, not before.

Two types of acne that change the plan

The treatment sequence is determined by what is diagnosed:

Comedonal acne — when the picture is mainly clogged pores, comedones, and non-inflammatory breakouts. The approach: peeling and a deep-cleansing treatment.

Inflammatory acne — when there is active inflammation and redness. The approach: peeling to balance the inflammation, and phototherapy to calm redness in the skin.

What dictates the choice is the diagnosis, not a request in advance for a particular treatment.

If you are on isotretinoin — or recently finished

This is the part you should read before booking an appointment.

We do not perform acne treatments while using isotretinoin (Roaccutane).

At the diagnosis we will ask when use began and when it ended, and our policy is a 6-month wait from the date treatment stopped before starting a plan at the clinic.

Why: isotretinoin affects the skin and its healing processes. The drug leaflet itself recommends a 6-month pause before cosmetic procedures. There is professional debate about how long the wait should be in practice, and we have chosen the cautious approach.

That means if you finished isotretinoin two months ago — we will be glad to see you for diagnosis and planning, but we will not start treatment before the time.

When we refer to a physician

Severe cystic acne is not a case for cosmetic treatment, and we refer it to a physician.

Deep, painful cysts require medical assessment, and sometimes medication. Cosmetic treatment at this stage not only will not help — it may delay treatment that is actually needed.

This is the same policy we follow for pigmentation and skin tag removal: we know where the line is.

For parents

A minor comes to consultation accompanied by a parent. Without an accompanying parent we do not hold a consultation.

This is policy, not a recommendation, and it applies even when the teenager prefers to come alone.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Age is not the criterion. What matters is when the acne started and how it behaves. Some people come to us at 12 and some at 14 — it varies.
  • Earlier is better. The earlier inflammatory acne is treated, the lower the risk of scars that remain later. This is the part that is hardest to explain to a 14-year-old, which is why it is important that the parent understands it.
  • Our team is women.

How long it takes

We will be honest: there is no single answer.

It can be 3 months, and it can reach two years — and the largest variable is not skin type.

It is what happens at home between sessions.

A plan in which home care is done consistently and the skin is kept balanced progresses at a completely different pace from a plan in which it is not. This is not a sentence meant to assign blame — it is simply the picture we see again and again.

Home care

Part of the plan is a tailored skincare routine from Miloré, the clinic's cosmetics brand, built according to the findings at diagnosis.

With acne this is not an add-on — it is part of the treatment itself.

And nutrition?

A question that comes up almost always, so here is a straight answer.

What the research shows: there is evidence linking consumption of dairy products and food with a high glycemic index — sugar, snacks, white baked goods — with worsening acne in some people. This is a topic that comes up in our consultation as part of the overall picture.

And what is no less important:

  • We are not a nutrition service and we do not build menus.
  • Acne is not caused by "bad eating." It has a strong hormonal and genetic component, and people who eat excellently still develop acne.
  • Especially with teenagers — any significant dietary change should go through the parent, and preferably in consultation with a physician or dietitian. At this age a dietary change is not a cosmetics matter.

How pricing is determined

There is no fixed price list. The price is derived from the type of acne, the condition of the skin, and the plan set after diagnosis. Plan A and Plan B are purchased separately.

The diagnosis costs 150 ₪, and is fully credited toward the plan if you choose to proceed. Cancellation up to 24 hours before the appointment — a full refund.

Frequently asked questions

I am on isotretinoin. Can I start treatment?

No. We do not treat while using isotretinoin, and our policy is a 6-month wait from the date treatment stopped.

My daughter is 14. Can I bring her?

Yes, accompanied by a parent. Without an accompanying parent we do not hold a consultation.

From what age do you treat?

Age is not the criterion — what matters is when the acne started and how it behaves.

How long until you see a change?

It varies a great deal. A plan can last 3 months and can reach two years, and the largest variable is consistency with home care.

I have painful cysts. Is this suitable for the clinic?

Severe cystic acne is referred to a physician. It is worth starting there.

Is the Post-Acne plan required as well?

No. It is purchased separately and is not a required stage. The decision is made after the active acne is balanced.

Is it okay to squeeze pimples at home?

Not recommended. Uncontrolled pressure increases inflammation and raises the risk of a mark that remains. Drainage, when needed, is done at the clinic under appropriate conditions.

Does food cause acne?

Acne is not caused by diet. There is evidence linking dairy and sugar to worsening in some people, and this is a topic that comes up in consultation — but we are not a nutrition service.

Can I wear makeup during the plan?

This is a topic we will discuss in consultation according to the stage and the type of treatment.

Is the team women?

Yes.
